Me & the Stock Market (A Beginner’s Perspective)
My Journey into the Stock Market
Hi, I am RR, just like you, I was once a complete beginner in the stock market.
My interest in the stock market is as old as I can remember, I could easily say since my 10th grade, but I didn’t quite swing that way because I knew if I asked my parents, they’d definitely give a big whooping “No” as their response when it comes to getting involved in the stock market.
More so, I heard things about the stock market being nothing but a gambler’s place, where people come to lose everything. This is true, and in fact, the stock market has delivered good & huge profits to millions of investors for decades up to this date. At the same time, many people have misused and abused this giant investing train because they want to make quick bucks without any knowledge or analysis.
I had nobody to discuss the stock market with (neither my friends nor neighbors were interested in it), so I left it and moved on because of the preconceived notions and misconceptions. I also felt that the stock market was very complicated and only for the rich & I thought it was not for me.
Years rolled past, and I remained in this state of ignorance until my last year of college, when I started reading financial news. I followed it again for a couple of days and failed miserably due to various reasons, but the main problem was confusion.
Yet again, after some days, I became determined to enter the stock market. This time, I had a hearty discussion with myself not to be in a hurry first, learn the ropes and then enter.
Taking first steps
Later on, I took various courses about the stock market, watched hours of YouTube videos, and read books. Then, after gaining some confidence, I opened a Demat account and became a retail investor in the stock market.
What to Expect from This Book
Here, I have carefully structured the content in a topic wise in 8 chapters covering the basics of the stock market and the various terminologies used in it.
The main highlight is that all the concepts explained here can be easily understood by beginners.
I may not be able to guarantee how much you will earn from the stock market, but by the end of all sections, you will have a solid foundation to navigate the market with confidence.
Before going ahead, I want to clear certain myths about the stock market:
1. Is the stock market gambling?
No, this view lacks proper education. People who study the market and invest wisely will make money, while others who incur losses will blame the market.
2. Is it very risky?
Yes, it is definitely risky. Investing without proper knowledge and education makes the stock market risky. But with proper training and knowledge, anyone can increase their rewards and reduce risk factors.
3. Is the stock market only for the educated?
Investing in the stock market does not require you to have any formal degree in finance. All you need is some basic math: + – * ÷
“Everyone has the brainpower to follow the stock market. If you made it through fifth-grade math, you can do it.”
—Peter Lynch
4. Does investing on your own take too much time?
Not anymore. In today’s world, technology has completely changed the way we access information. It allows easy tracking of stocks & market trends. Nowadays, there is no need to rely on newspapers for news & stock analysis because this data is available in real time on various websites and apps.
Investing in the stock market is a journey and like any journey the more you prepared, the better your chances of success. So, let’s begin this exciting journey together.
Happy reading and happy learning!!!
